BRITNEY BOYD BARBER

Artistic Director

Britney Barber is a Jacksonville native who graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in 2004 before continuing her training at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she earned her BFA in Dance Performance in 2008. During her time at UArts, she had the opportunity to train and work with renowned artists including Ronen Koresh, Kim Bears-Bailey, Wayne St. David, Donald Lunsford, Scott Jovovich, Christine Cox, and many others.

Upon graduation, Britney joined Stiletto Entertainment for Holland America Line, beginning a professional career that took her around the world. During her time at sea, she performed as both a dancer and aerialist and served as Dance Captain, traveling throughout the Mediterranean, the Baltic, the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, Canada, and Nova Scotia. Her professional credits also include performing with MOMIX for the opening of LA Fashion Week.

In 2011, Britney returned home to Jacksonville and began teaching at both of her alma maters, LaVilla School of the Arts and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, working with the next generation of young artists in the same programs that had been an important part of her own training.

In 2015, Britney opened Britney Boyd Dance Company. Now in its twelfth season, BBDC has grown into a competitive and pre-professional training program known for strong technical training, versatility, individuality, and developing dancers with a voice of their own. Under Britney’s direction, BBDC dancers have trained and competed across the country, earned national recognition, and continued their training and education at collegiate dance programs, conservatories, and professional programs throughout the country.

As Owner and Artistic Director, Britney remains hands-on in every aspect of BBDC, continuing to teach, choreograph, mentor, and develop the programs that have shaped the company over the past eleven years. Her focus has never been on creating one type of dancer, but on developing technically strong, versatile artists who know who they are, understand what they bring to the room, and aren’t afraid to be different.
